Joanne on her 11 second Sportster – Harley Drag Bike at Willowbank Raceway

 

Body Work:

We repainted another stock H-D body set for it red & black. Modified stock seat with foam & cover by Fiona Coombs. Cycle Shack slip-on mufflers, T-bars, shift light & steel struts.

Motor:

74ci XL rebuilt top end 2005 by Barry James.

Cases: H-D 1994 stock XL.

Crank & rods: H-D 3 13/16″ stock stroke & stock length 6.990 rods.

Barrels: XL 1200 bored to 3 1/2″ plus .005″.

Pistons: H-D 1200, flat top, plus .005″

Heads: 1200 Sportster with a flow job.

Springs: BUELL Thunderstorm.

Pushrods: ANDREWS XL adjustables.

Cams: Screamin’ Eagle 2

Lifters: Screamin’ Eagle

Clutch: Barnett 9 plate & new spring.

Ignition: H-D stock pick up & CRANE 6800 RPM module

Carb: S&S E Series with chrome S&S aircleaner.

Exhaust:

H-D stock header pipes with balance tube

Cycle Shack slip on mufflers

Transmission:

Gearset: Stock H-D XL 5 speed

Sprockets:Front: 29 Teeth   Rear: 61 Teeth    128T Belt

Best ET: 11.8 seconds

 

 

2: Sportster 1200cc / 74ci:

Bodywork:

Small H-D steel gas tank & steel fenders, painted by Neal, stock seat base with foam & upholstery by Indian Lofty.   Short Progressive rear shocks. Drag bars with pull back risers.

Motor:

74ci XL built 2003 by Barry James & Ollie Logan of OEM.

Cases: H-D stock 1996 XL.

Crank & rods: H-D 3 13/16″ stock stroke & stock length 6.990 rods.

Barrels: XL 883 bored to 3 1/2″ bore.

Pistons: Buell 1200, flat top, not Thunderstorm

Heads: 1200 Sportster Sport fitted with BUELL S1W Intake valves.

Springs: BUELL Thunderstorm.

Pushrods: Screamin’ Eagle XL adjustables.

Cams: Screamin’ Eagle 1

Lifters: Screamin’ Eagle

Clutch: Barnett 9 plate and new spring

Ignition: CRANE HI4 module

Carb: H-D CV with S&S aircleaner.

Exhaust:

H-D stock header pipes with balance tube

H-D slip on mufflers

Transmission:

Gearset: stock H-D XL 5 speed

Sprockets: Front: 29 Teeth Rear 61 Teeth 128T Belt

Best ET: 12.2 seconds

 

3: Sportster 1400cc / 84ci:

84ci Sportster

BFM 84ci – Harley-Davidson Sportster Drag Bike at Willowbank Raceway

 

Body work:

H-D steel XL small gas tank, H-D Belly pan and mini fairing, fibre glass cafe racer style front fender & H-D XL Dirt Track seat base with foam & upholstery by Fiona Coombs. Paint Red & Black with white pin lines by Neal. Steel clipons; H-D controls & Ohlins steering damper. Mags are machined thin at spoke ends H-D, polished & painted. Discs are polished 3 X S/Eagle.

Motor:

84ci XL built 2004 by Barry James & Morgs & rebuilt top end Dec 2011 by Choppazilla with top end oil set up for external draining back into timing hole in right crank case.

Cases: H-D 1994 XL with cyl openings bored & new LH side Timken fitted by OEM.

Crank & rods: H-D 3 13/16″ stock stroke & stock length 6.990 rods. 2004 new crank pin fitted.

Barrels: H-D bored out & fitted with LA Sleeve Co big iron sleeves at 3 ¾” bore.

Pistons: WISECO (from SERCO) 3 ¾” bore.

Lifters: H-D lifters fitted 2004.

Heads: ex dirt track 883 items, heavily modified by Steve Smith’s US Cycles Brisbane, fitted with Black Diamond XL 1100 valves & Nitro Pete Anderson flow job.

Cams: Andrews N80, with .600″ lift.

Clutch: 9 plate Barnett and new spring

Carb: S&S E Series with S&S airhorn and Thunder Jet.

Exhaust:

Stepped drag pipes 43 inches long

Transmission:

Gearset: stock H-D XL 5 speed

Sprockets: Front: 19 Teeth   Rear: 47 Teeth    520 RK DR Chain

Best ET: 11.7 seconds

 

4: BUELL 1200cc / 74ci:

Buell Race Bike

Bodywork:

Stock BUELL S3 Thunderbolt with X1 Lightning front end fitted – paint by Keed Bros Sydney. Rigid rear with steel strut.

Motor:

74ci BUELL rebuilt 2001 by Dave Stephenson at M&W H-D Race Dept.

Cases: BUELL.

Crank & rods: BUELL 3 13/16″ stock stroke & stock length 6.990 rods.

Barrels: BUELL 3 1/2″ bore.

Pistons: BUELL 1200, Thunderstorm

Heads: 1200 BUELL Thunder Storm.

Springs: BUELL Thunderstorm.

Pushrods: Screamin’ Eagle XL adjustables.

Cams: Screamin’ Eagle 1 / BUELL Thunder Storm.

Lifters: Screamin’ Eagle

Clutch: Barnett 9 plate and new spring

Ignition: BUELL with Race Module, 6800 RPM

Carb: BUELL EFI.

Exhaust:

Header Pipes: BUELL factory race headers – longer primary pipes.

Muffler: TMT Stainless Steel by Trent Todd – worth 2 hp over BUELL race muffler.

Transmission:

Gearset: stock H-D/BUELL XL 5 speed

Sprockets: Front: 27 Teeth  Rear: 55 Teeth    128T Belt

Best ET: 12.0 seconds
